All poker players can be divided into four groups. All these types of players have their own techniques which can be very useful under certain circumstances. Each of these types has at least two basic attributes. Depending on the number of hands the player plays with the players can be either tight or loose. Tight players play few hands and loose players play with a lot of hands. Or the player can be either aggressive or passive. An aggressive player has the following features: he bluffs and raises while a passive player calls the bets of other players. Loose-Aggressive In an online poker environment this is the weakest category. This player gambles according to the following principle: he raises after every flop. Their strategy often works against poor players and will win a lot of small pots, but online, these players will go broke quickly. Loose-Aggressive players attract sharks. The sharks are fine with letting these players have 10 small pots; they are after the three large pots which will eventually break this player. To avoid such results it is better for such players to change tables from time to time. For example, every 50 hands. Loose-Passive They are no more stronger than the first group. They typically will simply call the bets of the other players disregarding the Pot Odds or strength of their hand. These players will lose very slowly, often being able to stay in against the other players, but unable to beat the house rake. Tight-Passive These players can win money simply because there are so many bad players in the online poker rooms. The main weak point is that it is very easy to see and notice such players. Players of this type never bluff. If this type of player has a decent hand or a lot of outs, he or she will call your bet or make a small bet. They fold if they have a bad hand. Tight-Aggressive This style can be very successful for online play. They have the following principle of the game: see a flop with a decent hand and then take a shot at the pot after the flop with a bet.
