The origin of Poker is still discussed, as nobody can say for sure from what games it originates. Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. New Poker variations such as Stud, Draw and Straight Pokers enjoyed wide popularity during the Wild West period of the US history. Only when playing Poker you play against other players and not against the house. Though there are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other, the principle of winning hands remain the same. Nowadays you can play Poker in any casino in nearly any country.
